How did you meet?
Dan claims I asked for his hoodie at a year 8 social and the rest was history! We were kicking around in the same group of friends for 10 years or so and eventually ended up falling in love. A huge surprise to both of us but the best surprise yet.
When and where did you get married?
We were married on the 20th of February 2021 at Port Molyneux School, Kaka point. Both growing up in Dunedin surrounded by beautiful beaches, it felt right to have it along the stunning southern coastline.
What was the theme/aesthetic of your big day?
Less is more. We always pictured a simple, relaxed wedding day with some beautiful details. We wanted a theme that wouldn’t date. We used a range of white flowers with greenery, our bouquets were gorgeous white roses, complemented by black and white signage and pillar candles in glass vases - such a classic! I've always loved the paprika burnt orange, we went for this colour in a lovely crepe fabric for the girls, it suited them so well and tied in perfectly with the coastal surroundings.
What was the biggest source of inspiration while planning your wedding?
As most brides-to-be do, I scrolled through Instagram and Pinterest sharing ideas with Dan, Mum and the girls, recreating the things we loved the most and made it ours.
The most memorable moment from your day?
Having our most loved humans all in one place is a huge highlight. We remember travelling back along the seaside after bridal party photos, our bridal party laughing and singing in the restored school bus and it felt like we were floating on a little love cloud. It was a surreal moment. Our speeches were very special, with lots of laughs and plenty of tears. We were both in awe of how much emotion there was throughout the day, literally couldn’t wipe the smiles off our faces. Someone asked me on the dance floor if my face was sore from all the smiles, I said “yes, my cheeks hurt so much but it's perfect” A great indication of a wonderful day.Our beautiful friends had planned, learnt and rehearsed a surprise Haka to close the reception speeches, something we will never forget.
The biggest hit on the dance floor was?
One of our besties who sang me and the girls down the aisle ended up jumping on the microphone with our band! They played while she sang Tennessee Whiskey, such a special moment, everyone had the best time.
We honeymooned in?
We flew into Auckland, our flights sorted for by our besties, picked up our trusty Toyota Vitz and made our way through the Coromandel. We stayed in the cutest Air BnB which was gifted to us by our head table. We ended up in Mount Maunganui where we had the best experience with Adventure Helicopters flying around Mauao - Absolute bliss!
Did you always have an idea in mind of what you wanted your dress to look like?
I knew I wanted to wear a simple, slightly fitted crepe dress, something I felt super comfortable in with a timeless design. I've always been a sucker for a high neckline as they are so elegant and stunning.A low, detailed back was also very high on my priorities to add a bit of fun! When I came across Taylor online, I fell in love with her instantly and I knew I had to see her in person. She was everything I had in my mind and so much more.
