Q&A with Tim from T.Begg Tailoring
We sat down with Tim, the Creative Director behind T.Begg Tailoring, one of our brands within the Trish Peng group. Tim shares his story and experience within the men’s tailoring industry and the inspiration behind T.Begg.
Q: How did you get into the men’s tailoring industry? Was it always a passion of yours
A: I have always been interested in fashion and menswear. I worked for a well-known NZ suit company for some years, and that has led me to where we are today.
Q: Tell us how the idea for T.Begg came about?
A: I was in a job I wasn’t very happy in. One day Trish and I were discussing our future. She had always wanted to develop into menswear, and I was considering starting my own line. We put the two ideas together and TBT was born!
Q: What kind of experience can customers expect when coming in for a consultation?
A: Each experience for our customers is unique to them. This includes a discussion around occasion, style preferences, cloth options and precise measurements.
Q: What trends are you noticing in the upcoming seasons? Both formal and everyday tailoring.
A: We are still seeing a more relaxed aesthetic in tailoring. Trousers are a little fuller, jackets a little wider meanwhile maintaining the essence of tailoring. With a more casual approach to work attire these days you might pair an overshirt or a bomber jacket with a tailored trouser for example.
Q: What staple items would you recommend to anyone looking to build a staple capsule wardrobe?
A: I would probably start with the following: A well-fitting suit made of quality cloth, a lighter-coloured cotton trouser, beige or camel; a dark pair of jeans, black or deep blue; and a white or powder blue shirt, preferably in oxford fabric.
Q: What is next for T.begg Tailoring? Anything exciting in the pipeline?
A: TBT will be celebrating it’s first birthday this August, so stay tuned for that!
